Sunshine Newsletter for June 2021

We have a nice and cool season in Cairns now. It is said that Japan will have a wet season earlier than usual this year. In a classroom, I have decorated origami flower of hydrangea, which is an icon of a wet season in Japan. I hope you enjoy those.

Workshop & Kōryū-kai (gathering) :

We will have a workshop and Kōryū-kai this month.

The topic is one type of the Zen meditation with drawing Buddha.

I chose this activity as that is what we can experience in Japan and also we would be able to give it a go here. I usually take this workshop as a preparation so that you will be confident to attend the activity in Japan. However, it seems like it would be a long time until the border is open. Therefore, I would like to provide opportunities here as much as possible.

For this drawing Buddha activity, you don’t need any drawing skills. We will trace a Buddha picture with a meditation mind. Just focus on tracing with no concerns. I hope I can get an appropriate environment for you in a classroom, such as you can feel like you are in a temple.

I know it is hard to get what I mean, so here is a link showing what the tracing of Buddha means, as below.

Please ask me for further information.

I look forward to your participation. RSVP: 13th June

Time: 1:00 pm, Saturday, 19th June

Place: Sunshine Japanese classroom

Fee: $15
