Sunshine Newsletter for December 2021

The last newsletter for 2021. It was becoming better and better, and we were hoping for a bright future with the opening of our borders soon. Then suddenly, we have unpleasant news from the world, in which we are sort of involved. We should stay calm and wait for the time.

I wish you all Merry Christmas and a happy new year!

Workshop & Kōryū-kai (gathering) :

We will have a workshop and Kōryū-kai on the 4th of December.

The topic is Japanese new year decoration making. Japanese people still keep traditional decorations to welcome a happy new year. In this workshop, we will learn some types of decorations and the meaning of those and make one of them, although the one I have designed is a bit different from the traditional ones as I selected the materials we can get with ease in Cairns. You will be able to more enjoy Japanese new year customs after this.

I look forward to your participation. RSVP: 2nd December.

Time: 1:00 pm, Saturday, 4th December

Place: Sunshine Japanese classroom

Fee: $15

Oshaberi Club:

Oshaberi club (where you can practice your Japanese conversational skills with other participants who are interested in a certain topic) comprising two groups, one being elementary to pre-intermediate and the other being intermediate or higher. Please feel free to jump in and enjoy this fun challenge.

***GROUP 1: Intermediate or higher*** We have been working well with visual resources for the conversation, which could make us feel like we were in the pictures/videos and take us back to our memories. Participants can chat with short sentences, which sound more natural. We will keep this style of exercise until being more comfortable and confident. This month, we will have a chat thought Osaka city. Enjoy chatting!

Time: 1:00 pm, Saturday, 18th December

***GROUP 2: Elementary to pre-intermediate*** Don’t hesitate, and just give a go! Let’s talk about your most previous trip to Japan, what you like, what you didn’t like, tell us what was interesting, fun, cool or new that you discovered. Bring some photos, prints, gift (Omiyage), trinket, anything that you brought back from your travels and let’s chat about it this Oshaberi club. Please come and join us.

Time: 3:00 pm, Saturday, 18th November

For both groups, please book your attendance so that I can organise the groups. Try to book at the earliest time to reserve your spot as you don’t want to miss out.

Place: Sunshine Japanese

Fee: $30

News corner:
Hungry Wombat: Japanese Udon noodle shop @ Orchid Plaza, tempura for a takeaway available

Have you been to Hungry Wombat for Udon noodles? It is an authentic Udon restaurant.

They serve not only Udon but also tempura side dishes. I have recently found that we can get tempura for a takeaway. Only for new year’s eve, you have to order beforehand. It would be good to add tempura for your Christmas meal or new year dish.

Hungry Wombat: Orchid Plaza (ground floor), 58 Lake Street, Cairns (Phone: 40312315)
